Privacy Policy

This policy applies to coulstonconstruction.com and to the estimate requests we receive through it. The business responsible for the information described here is:

We serve the Kansas City metro on both sides of the state line. We are not a publisher, a data broker, or an advertising network, and we have no business model that involves your information other than remodeling your house.

What you type in

Our estimate and contact forms ask for your name, email address, phone number, the type of project you are considering, and any project details you choose to write. The first four are required; the details field is not.

What your browser tells us when you submit a form

Along with the form itself, we record technical details about the visit. We use them to tell a real estimate request from the automated junk that fills contractor inboxes, and to know which ad or page produced a genuine lead:

• Your IP address
• Your browser’s user-agent string
• Your browser window’s width and height
• Your time zone and language setting
• The page you submitted from, and the page that referred you to us
• If you arrived from a Google ad, the campaign and search keyword that brought you. This is held in your browser’s session storage while you look around and is discarded when you close the tab, whether or not you ever submit anything.

Submitted requests are run through an automated check for signs of a sales solicitation or bot submission. A flagged request is not deleted or rejected — it is routed to a review inbox so a person can look at it. Nothing about this decides anything that affects your legal rights; it decides which inbox an email lands in.

What we get from Facebook and Instagram

If you fill in one of our lead forms inside Facebook or Instagram rather than on this site, Meta passes us the contact details and answers you gave there, and they go into the same place as a form from this website.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for and do not want your Social Security number, your date of birth, your driver’s licence, your financial account numbers, your precise geolocation, or any of the categories of sensitive personal information those state privacy laws single out. We do not buy lists, and — contrary to what an earlier version of this page said — we do not obtain information about you from credit reporting agencies, public records databases, or advertising networks.

What we do not run

There is no Meta/Facebook pixel on this website. There is no TikTok, LinkedIn, Snapchat, or other advertising pixel. There is no session recording, no heatmap tool, no chat widget, and no third-party form embed. Nothing on this site records your keystrokes, your mouse movements, or your screen.

Storage we use that is not tracking

Your consent choice is kept in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie, so it is never transmitted to us. Google ad attribution is kept in session storage for the length of your visit. After you submit a form, a single value is written to session storage and immediately cleared, so that reloading the thank-you page does not report a duplicate lead.

If you are in Missouri or Kansas

You will not see a consent banner, and the tools listed above run normally. Missouri and Kansas are our entire service area, and neither state has a comprehensive consumer privacy statute that requires us to ask. We think you are entitled to know that, which is why it is written here rather than left unsaid.

You are not stuck with it. The Your Privacy Choices link at the bottom of every page opens the same controls everyone else gets, and turning the advertising and analytics tools off works exactly the same way for you.

If you are anywhere else

Nothing that builds an advertising profile runs until you say yes. Google’s tags load in a denied state, in which they write no cookies and send only anonymous pings; Plausible does not load at all. A banner asks once. If you decline, or simply ignore it, that state persists and nothing on the site stops working.

If your browser sends Global Privacy Control

If you use a browser or extension that sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a decision you have already made: outside Missouri and Kansas you are opted out automatically and are never shown the banner. You do not need to do anything else, and you do not need to tell us who you are for it to work.

Changing your mind

The Your Privacy Choices link appears in the footer of every page on this site, including our landing pages. It reopens the controls, shows you what is currently on, and lets you switch it either way as often as you like. We do not ask why, and nothing you see or receive from us changes based on the answer.

Your choice is remembered in your own browser. Clearing your browsing data, using a different browser, or browsing privately will lose it, and you will be asked again. We also ask again whenever this policy changes materially, because a choice made about an older policy is not consent to a new one.

• Calling, texting, or emailing you back about the project you asked about
• Preparing an estimate, scheduling a site visit, and doing the work
• Keeping records of contracts, payments, permits, and warranty history
• Telling a genuine estimate request from spam and cold sales outreach
• Understanding which pages and which ads produce real enquiries, so we spend the advertising budget sensibly
• Meeting our legal, tax, licensing, and insurance obligations

We do not use your information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you, and we do not profile you for anything beyond the advertising measurement described in section 4.

We use a small number of service providers to run the business. They are permitted to use your information only to provide their service to us, and not for their own purposes:

• Vercel — hosts this website and processes the requests that reach it.
• Google Workspace / Google Sheets — a copy of each estimate request is written to a private spreadsheet we use to track leads.
• Our lead database — a private MySQL database that holds estimate requests and their status.
• Resend — delivers the notification email that tells us a request came in.
• Apple Push Notification service — sends the alert to our phones so a new request is not missed.
• Google LLC — the analytics and advertising tools in section 4.
• Plausible Insights OÜ — the visitor counter in section 4.
• Meta Platforms — only if you submitted a lead form inside Facebook or Instagram, in which case they had it first and passed it to us.

Beyond that, we share information with subcontractors and suppliers when doing so is necessary to carry out your project — a cabinet supplier needs a delivery address — and with our accountant, insurer, or lawyer where required. We will also disclose information if the law requires it, in response to valid legal process, or where necessary to protect someone’s safety or our legal rights. If the business is ever sold or merged, customer records would transfer as part of it, and this policy would continue to apply until you were told otherwise.

We do not give your name, phone number, or email address to other contractors, to lead-generation companies, or to anyone who wants to market to you.

• Estimate requests that did not become projects: up to two years from your last contact with us, in case you come back to the project.
• Requests flagged as spam or cold solicitation: cleared out routinely once reviewed.
• Customer and project records — contracts, invoices, permits, warranty history: seven years after the work is completed, which is what our tax, insurance, and warranty obligations require.
• Analytics data is held by Google and Plausible under their own retention schedules rather than ours, and is not linked to your name or contact details on our side.

If you ask us to delete your information sooner, we will, except for records we are legally required to keep — and we will tell you which ones those are.

A growing number of states — including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, New Jersey, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Maryland and others, with more taking effect each year — give residents rights over their personal information. Rather than keep a list that is wrong within a year, we will simply extend the following to anyone who asks, wherever you live:

• Know what we hold about you and where it came from
• Get a copy of it in a portable form
• Correct anything that is wrong
• Delete it, subject to the record-keeping exceptions in section 9
• Opt out of the advertising and analytics tools — which you can do yourself, immediately, with Your Privacy Choices
• Not be treated differently for exercising any of these. We will not refuse you service, change your price, or give you a worse estimate.

How to make a request

Email bob@coulstonconstruction.com with “Privacy Request” in the subject line, or call (816) 365-9308. Tell us what you want and which email address or phone number you gave us — we look you up by the details you submitted, and we may need to confirm you are the same person before handing over or deleting anything. We will not use what you send us for a privacy request for anything else.

We respond within 45 days. If a request is genuinely complicated we may take up to another 45, and we will tell you inside the first 45 if that happens. There is no charge.

Authorised agents

Someone may make a request on your behalf if you have authorised them in writing, or if they hold a power of attorney. We will ask for proof of that authorisation and may ask you to confirm it directly.

If we say no

You can appeal, and several state laws require that we let you. Reply to our decision and say you are appealing; a different person will review it and respond within 60 days with a written explanation. If we still say no, you may complain to your state Attorney General — and if you are in California you may also contact the California Privacy Protection Agency.

When you submit a form here, you are agreeing that we may contact you by phone, text message, or email about the project you asked about. That agreement is not a condition of buying anything from us, and your carrier’s message and data rates may apply.

• To stop texts: reply STOP to any message from us, or just tell whoever you are talking to.
• To stop emails: use the unsubscribe link, or reply and ask.
• To stop calls: tell us, and we will record it and stop.

We may still need to contact you about a project that is already under way — a delivery window or a permit inspection is not marketing. We do not sell or pass your phone number to anyone else who wants to call you.

This site is served over HTTPS, and estimate requests are transmitted encrypted. Our lead database and the tools we use to read it are restricted to the people at Coulston Construction who need them, and access requires a login.

No system is perfectly secure, and we would rather say that than imply otherwise. If we ever discover a breach affecting your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

This site is for homeowners, and nothing on it is directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

We build in the Kansas City metro and nowhere else, so this site is meant for people in the United States. Our systems and our service providers are in the United States, and anything you send us is stored and processed here under United States law, which may offer less protection than the law where you live. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom and you have reached this page, you can still email us and we will honour a deletion request.

Our site links to other websites — suppliers, our Google Business Profile, our Facebook and YouTube pages, review sites — and embeds Google Maps. Once you follow a link, or when a map loads, the other company’s privacy policy governs what they do, not ours. We have no control over them and cannot answer for them.

When we change what we collect or which tools we run, we update this page and change the effective date at the top. Material changes also reset the consent choice stored in your browser, so anyone outside Missouri and Kansas is asked again rather than being held to a decision made about a different policy.
